We’re thrilled about our new addition to the Stripling’s Hoop Cheese family—Whole Wheel Red Rind Hoop Cheese. With a nostalgic nod to the past and everything reminiscent of pleasant times, the wheel of cheese comes in its own old-fashioned wooden cheese box. Such a container is just the right size to store your cheese (or carry it with you), not to mention a neat hiding place for your other treasures when the cheese has long since been devoured.
The cheese box reminds us of general stores in the 19th century when hoop cheese was a popular mainstay. It sat on a turntable style device called a hoop cheese cutter which had been specifically manufactured by scale companies so that the exact amount could be cut for customers.
Red rind hoop cheese, by the way is the mild variety. The advantage of taking the leap to the whole wheel size (rather than just the one-pound wedge) is that you’ll have plenty to share with family and friends and show off your nifty wooden box!
