Stripling's

Pickles » Hot Asparagus Bullets

Since asparagus is usually a fairly tame vegetable, we thought we'd shake things up a bit, so we have created Stripling's Hot Asparagus Bullets. Although smaller than a spear of asparagus, they still pack enough punch to invigorate you, and they are sublime in this recipe for Southern Crab Cakes.

Serving suggestion

Southern Crab Cakes
1 pound (3 cups) fresh lump crab meat, drained and cut into small wedges
1/3 cup Stripling's Hot Asparagus Bullets, drained and diced*
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon lemon juice
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon water
2 eggs, well-beaten
½ cup fine bread crumbs
Cooking oil

Drain crab meat if necessary; remove any random cartilage and cut into small wedges. Mix crab meat, Stripling's Hot Asparagus Bullets, butter, lemon juice, pepper, and enough beaten eggs to mold into small cakes. Blend 1 tablespoon water into remaining beaten eggs and dip the cakes into this mixture. Roll in bread crumbs. Either saute until golden brown (and cooked solidly throughout) or fry in oil of choice.

*1 (16 ounce) jar of Stripling's Hot Asparagus Bullets will meet the recipe requirement and leave a nice amount remaining for snacking or other uses!

Pickled Beets
#4012
Old fashioned whole pickled beets have the special touch of fresh onions and whole pickling spices.

Pickled beets are definitely an acquired taste! However, those individuals who appreciate such delicacies cannot get enough of Stripling's Pickled Beets and have been known to eat them straight from the jar. Or, when choosing to be more civilized, they might place them on a bed of lettuce and add some chopped onion on top.
