Our business began 45 years ago. My grandfather owned a small grocery and mercantile store where my Uncle worked. His passion for fresh pork and pork products led to the development of the infamous Stripling’s Sausage Recipe we still use today. He knew the key to a quality product…A fresh hot hog country sausage. He opened his own store on the family farm in 1964 which quickly became known as the “Sausage Kitchen.” It was simply a butcher shop where he sold his sausage and fresh cuts of pork. As demand grew so did his business by serving not only pork but beef as well.
In 1978 we had a decision to make to carry on the Stripling Tradition or continue farming the family land. My father, Jack Hardin, and I decided to buy the “Sausage Kitchen”. We had very little knowledge, little cash and a lot of farming debt. The one thing we did know was to continue using the whole hogs and my Uncle’s perfected blend of seasonings. We were right. Our whole hog sausage is more popular than ever. Producing over 300,000 lbs a year, our little country store on the farm has grown!
In 1991, we expanded our store and moved to a location near Lake Blackshear on GA Hwy 300 S in Cordele, Georgia. We expanded our store to a full line grocery store including specialty items like jams, jellies, salad dressings, sauces and more while continuing to keep sausage as the backbone of operations.
After 30 years and much success with our sausage recipe, we decided to develop a new product. In 1995, we sold our first batch of “Stripling’s Beef Jerky.” This jerky certainly sets us apart from our competitors. It took us many sample batches but we think we found a good thing. For over 10 years now we have been serving this jerky and it is becoming just as popular as “Stripling’s Sausage.”
The Stripling family tradition keeps on growing with the addition of two more locations. The first built just five years later in 1996 located on the other side of Lake Blackshear on GA Hwy 280 W across from GA Veteran’s State Park in Cordele, Georgia. And the third opening its doors in 2005 in Moultrie, Georgia. This location also houses a USDA inspected facility that facilitates our sausage and beef jerky production as well as a mail order business. With the opening of the Moultrie location along came my daughter, Ashley Hardin Goss and her husband, Clint Goss making the third generation working with our company. Also in 2006 the doors to our new 15,000 sq ft location just across the street on Highway 300 opened. With this addition, our youngest daughter Lindsay (Hardin) Land joined the reigns only enforcing the commitment to our family business for generations to come.
Through all the growth and changes one thing has remained constant and that is the quality of our products and service. If you are ever in our area it’s worth a trip to see us. Just remember “You Never Sausage A Place.”
